About

June 12, 2007  (Bob)

Hi, I’m Bob Hill, one of the two Texans mentioned in the URL. My wife and I had never been in or near Australia when we sold, stored, or gave away most of our possessions, boarded a plane, and moved southwest to this continent. One web site we’ve seen says Brisbane is 8,333 miles from Dallas and it seems that far when you’re flying from DFW to LAX and then to Brisbane, which we did. The trip even costs you an extra day because you cross the International Date Line. Who knew? Not us. Not in June, 2005.

I am a husband, father of one, grandfather of two, and brother of three. A former journalist, I started as a $50/week police beat reporter for the Kingsville (TX) “Record” and worked many years later as a deskman for the Boston (MA) “Globe.” Then I was a Unitarian Universalist minister for a while in various places in the United States. Now I’m a “following spouse,” assisting my wife (a researcher) and enjoying the study of the people and places of this US-size chunk of land surrounded by salty water in the southern hemisphere.

Please visit often, comment on anything you want to, and sign up for my free newsletter if you have any interest in the Land of Oz as a place to visit or live. Thanks for visiting this time. — Bob
